I have met many bloggers who just assume if they create a good looking infographic, it will pay off for them by itself. That can’t be further from the truth. It is true that your visitors could help make your infographic go viral. That does not mean you should sit and wait for that to happen. The most successful infographic designers know the importance of promoting their work aggressively. Here are just a few ways you can go about promoting your own infographics:

  • include embeddable code: your visitors should not have to work too hard to add your infographic to their sites. The easier you make the process of sharing for them, the better.
  • Reach out to top blogs: this is a no brainer. If you want your infographic to get the most attention possible, you should reach out to top blogs that cover infographic on a daily basis. Site quality is more important than quantity here.
  • use social media: infographics often go viral on top social sites. Twitter, Facebook, Google+, StumbleUpon, Linkedin, and Pinterest should all be part of your social media promotion strategy for your infographics.
  • create killer content around your infographic: your infographic may or may not go viral on its own. You could improve the chances of that happening by creating killer content around your visual.
  • hire experts: sometimes you are better off hiring others to promote your infographics for you. Some infographic designers offer infographic marketing services for a fee. Just make sure you do your homework before choosing a partner in this area.

Designing infographics for your site is a great link building strategy (though you should not overdo it). But you should also promote your visuals to get the most out of your investment. You may have to be very aggressive to get a decent return from your infographic investments.
