It is no secret that more webmasters now use infographics to build links. A killer infographic can not only drive a ton of valuable links to your website, it could increase the amount of traffic and social votes your site gets. Not every infographic goes viral though. Paying someone to develop an infographic for your site just for the sake of doing it is not exactly the smartest idea.
Just like any other tactic, you need to do your due diligence to make sure your infographic has the best chance to succeed. If you have never published your own infographics, here are 5 tips to get you started:
- Find a killer topic: in order for your infographic to go viral, it needs to capture the imagination of your visitors. You should be as creative as possible with the topics you cover in your infographics. Not everyone gets this right the first time. But taking some risk here is not a bad idea.
- Do your research on designers: I don’t know about you but I am not a good enough designer to put together professional looking infographics. Finding a decent designer who is reliable is not always easy. Always do your research beforehand to make sure you don’t end up with an infographic designer from hell.
- Focus on a long-term approach: so many bloggers want to see instant results with their infographics. I have personally had infographics that went viral weeks or months after they were published. Don’t believe for a second that publishing only one infographic would all of a sudden take your blog to the next level.
- Promote / share: you may have the best infographic ever on your website. If you do not promote it, there is a good chance people won’t find out about it. You should not only promote your own infographics but also provide your visitors with sharing tools.
- Track your progress: Google Analytics is your best friend here. Publishing your infographic is only one part of the story. By tracking who’s sharing your work and how your infographics are affecting your traffic, you can make better decisions with future infographic projects.
Not every blogger has the resources to get infographics developed for his/her website. Infographics are not cheap to develop. The above tactics help you make every single one count.
